The Endless Winter - Entry #12

Grief can feel like an eternal cold, an endless winter.

A year ago, in first dead days of January, I explored the long, open lawns of Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, TX. It was moderately cool when I first arrived and I hadn't brought a coat. But as the sun began to set, a terrible cold settled all around. It was in that moment, as I walked between stone monuments to the dead, I came upon a statue of a grieving girl, shoulders laid bare, the picture of innocence and sorrow. She seemed alive in that greying twilight, caught between worlds, frozen in her grief, unable to pass on or let go, a prisoner to the Endless Winter.
